The culture at our school
JTI Senior’s culture is intentionally built around intellectual seriousness, personal agency, and real-world relevance rather than passive, exam-only learning. Classrooms function as active spaces of inquiry where students are expected to question, debate, and apply ideas, not simply absorb them. There is a consistent emphasis on ownership: students manage internships, lead initiatives, and engage with authentic problems early, which cultivates maturity, accountability, and professional confidence. At the same time, the environment is warm and friendly, with a close-knit, mentorship-driven community; teachers know students well, guide them individually, and treat them as emerging adults with distinct strengths and goals. The administration genuinely listens to students, valuing their perspectives rather than asserting authority, which fosters trust and mutual respect. The result is a community that balances high expectations with genuine support — academically rigorous, ethically grounded, and future-facing — where achievement is measured not just by grades, but by clarity of purpose, independence of thought, and meaningful engagement with the world beyond school.
Wellness initiatives
Wellness is a central part of life at JTI Senior, and the school takes a proactive approach to helping students understand and manage their emotions, build empathy, and reflect on themselves and others. Rather than abstract lessons, wellness is woven into real activities that students experience directly. For example, in one reflective exercise, students create self-portraits using the House component of the House-Tree-Person (HTP) technique, then explore what different features might symbolize about their feelings and experiences. This is framed clearly as a reflective, non-diagnostic activity, giving students a safe way to engage with their emotions and share insights in discussion. In another activity, students watch a short film about stereotyping and assumptions, followed by a guided discussion on perspective-taking, exploring how biases can affect relationships and how adults and teenagers may see each other differently. Through exercises like these, wellness at JTI Senior is lived and practiced, encouraging emotional awareness, empathy, and thoughtful reflection as part of everyday school life.
